What a great product you put out! More useful than any print media covering the same subject - even Computer Gaming World (which seems to have gone soft recently).
GB: Woah! That's pretty high praise. I'm highly humbled. I personally wouldn't say that CGW is soft, but I respect opinions.
My first issue read was #17 and I found the number of games covered to be quite satisfactory. The real seller of GameBytes though, is the many insights into the hardware that run these games. The pieces on graphic modes, for example, was excellent.
GB: I think that our reviews, for the most part, can stand up right there with many reviews in CGW and other magazines.
It's funny, but the reviews of the games themselves are usually secondary to these other pieces, since they are usually poorly written (do you want the services of a proofreader I know?) and only a few games are of interest to me.
GB: I must take issue with you on the quality of writing in Game Bytes. I believe strongly that our writing has improved dramatically over the past several issues and we continue to get better. Regarding your other comments about miscellaneous articles, boy, are you gonna LOVE this issue...
How to improve GameBytes? Well gee, that's pretty hard as it is. More games covered I guess (is more participation the only thing preventing this?), but keep them fantastic information pieces coming! Nowhere else can I find answers to questions such as:
1. What hardware will I really need to run the newest games? 2. How are graphics created in some of these flight sims? 3. What is the development process that games follow? etc...
And sticking to a more reliable schedule (please, no laughing!) would sure be helpful. Every 4-5 weeks would be super.
GB: So. It's been almost exactly 1 month since the last issue. How are we doing?
Well, based on #17, I'm sold. You're cheque is in the mail (really!). And allowing advertising into GameBytes is fine by me. If the format evident in issue #17 is any indication, advertising in fact is even welcome!
GB: I'll certainly be saving your letter and sending it on to some potential companies we're chasing. Thanks a lot!
BTW, could you e-mail me the format you want followed for game reviews, plus what screen grabbers you recommend? Thanks.
GB: The Game Bytes writers guidelines is posted very regularly on all the major distribution points for Game Bytes.
