The 14-inch guns of your dreadnought thunder as you order another devastating salvo fired at the enemy line. Your ships shudders with the recoil of the guns, and you peer through the binoculars as the shells arch toward their target. A few well-placed hits could sink the enemy, but your squadron is still vulnerable to a torpedo or shell attack that could send your ships to the ocean floor.
This is World War I naval action like you've never seen before! Calibrate your range-finder and stuff your ears with wool as you prepare for the action, sights and sounds of Jutland!
Command a fearsome dreadnought and fight for control of the North and South Atlantic for the entire German Imperial fleet or the British Royal Navy. Fight a single mission, a battle campaign or the entire war while commanding one ship, a squadron of ships, or the entire fleet.
The drama, action and excitement of WWI naval combat comes to life with stunning SVGA and VGA graphics, digitized video and sound effects and historically accurate combat. Experience naval combat as the sailors and officers did almost 80 years ago, including night combat, torpedo attacks, salvos of exploding shells and burning ships. When you're ready, test your naval combat ability in the awe-inspiring BATTLE OF JUTLAND!
Ships of Steel and Men of Iron! Naval shells are exploding around you, smoke and shrapnel fill the bridge, your aft gun turret is out of action and your forward turret is low on ammunition. The lives of your crew and the outcome of the battle hinge on what you do next. This new CD-ROM game, Jutland, is filled with stunning graphics, digitized audio and video, realistic sound effects and state-of-the-art renderings that put you in command of a fearsome "dreadnought", the most powerful warship of its day, as you fight for the German Imperial Fleet or the British Royal Navy to gain control of the Atlantic Ocean.
With CD-ROM technology that will set the standard for simulations to come, Jutland lets you relive the greatestof all modern naval battles, the Battle of Jutland. This controversial naval exchange between Britain and Germany on the afternoon of May 31, 1916 continued into the early morning hours of June 1. In the gray wastes of the North Sea, these massive, floating steel fortresses known as battle cruisers and battleships, more than 60 in all, met for a bloody confrontation. When the battle was over, Britain had lost 14 ships, with 6,097 sailors killed. Germany had lost 11 ships with 2,551 men killed. Both sides claimed victory yet questions remain, "Who won?"..."Who lost?"..."What made the difference between victory and defeat?"
Jutland allows you to take command of a single warship, a squadron or the entire fleet. Knowledge of tactics and skill at seamanship are musts as you determine when to fire, turn, launch torpedoes and more. Play a single mission from a battle, an entire battle or a campaign where you actions early in the war affect which ships can participate in the final confron- tation of the simulation, the Battle of Jutland.
Unsurpassed in historical realism, Jutland features authentic ships from the period that actually participated in the battles. Speed and weight of shells, armor penetrating capabilities and accuracy rates are all incorporated to give the player the advantages and disadvantages experienced by naval captains of the day.
A unique feature is the on-disk historical manual and user's guide. Hot- linked to key points in game play, the user's guide provides instant access to instructions, hints and "cheats", while the historical manual provides an in-depth account of naval warfare during WWI along with over 40 digitized photographs from the Imperial War Museum in Britain.
Bypassing the typical "points system", Jutland gives players the rewards a successful naval hero could expect at the turn of the century: newsreel footage praising his exploits, the acclaim of the public, knighthood and even a statue in his honor. Just as satisfying, the player's successes early in the campaign affect the enemy's resources later, offering a chance to alter history by daring and skill.
