I get asked very frequently, "Ross, what are the known FTP sites that Game Bytes is distributed on?" Good question. Upon completion of an issue, Game Bytes is immediately sent to ftp.uml.edu and is then moved into the /msdos/Games/Game_Bytes directory. From there, Brian O'Neil has the directories mirrored to many other sites, including the following:
Location Name IP Address Directory
Missouri wuarchive.wustl.edu 128.252.135.4 /systems/msdos/msdos-games
Wisconsin ftp.uwp.edu 131.210.1.4 /pub/msdos/games/uml
Germany ftp.Uni-Paderborn.de 131.234.2.32 /pcsoft2/msdos2/games/
Game_Bytes
S. Africa ftp.sun.ac.za 146.232.213.2 /pub/msdos/uml
Taiwan NCTUCCCA.edu.tw 140.111.3.21 /Ulowell/msdos
Thailand ftp.nectec.or.th 192.150.251.32 /pub/mirrors/games
UK src.doc.ic.ac.uk 146.169.2.1 /computing/systems/ibmpc/
msdos-games/Games
Singapore ftp.nus.sg 137.132.9.11 /pub/pc/msdos-games/
Game_Bytes
You can also check out the following FTP sites too...
ftp.cica.indiana.edu
wuarchive.wustl.edu
oak.oakland.edu
archive.umich.edu
ftp.uml.edu
ftp.uwp.edu
archive.orst.edu
ftp.uu.net
The same directory structure applies there, however there may be some parent directories 'above' /msdos/Games/Game_Bytes. For example, on wuarchive.wustl.edu, the parent directories are called /mirrors. Start with those and work your way down.
If you have any questions or know of more FTP sites that actively carry Game Bytes on a regional FTP sites, please email me at rwericks@ingr.com for more details.
