From agraf@agecon.uga.edu Mon Aug 23 16:14:27 1999 Date: Mon, 23 Aug 1999 14:07:35 EST5EDT From: "Anita Graf (Staff)" To: sanet-mg@ces.ncsu.edu Subject: I'm Ok, You're Ok > list? Do we really need to observe the "I'm OK, You're OK" attitude > about truth? Do we really need to assert religious falsehoods to > make our points? This is somewhat off-topic, but I just had to comment. I see the book title _I'm Ok, You're Ok_ misused all the time to mean "fluffy, saccherine, nonesense," and I just want to inform you all that this book, written in 1967 as the public introduction to Transactional Analysis, is anything BUT that. It is one of the best books I have ever read regarding human interaction, and one of the best tools I know of to help people to communicate in mature and thoughtful ways and to understand why this doesn't always occur. I wish more people would read this book and not just continue to misunderstand its title. I'm sure that if the author had any idea how his terminology would be misunderstood, he would have named the book differently, and maybe used different terminology all together to express his concept. Again, I highly recommend this book to anyone who seeks to have better communication and better relationships. There are few books in the New Age genre of self-help that can even come close to touching this book. If you were to understand the real meaning behind "I'm ok, you're ok," you would not denegrate it as fluff. In fact you ought to celebrate it as something very profound.
