Newsflash: Magnifico has come out of retirement to launch an excellent new mud, Tempora Heroica, based on the old Archipelago code. Having regained his 'C'-legs, Magnifico has already added exciting new features such as clans, player houses, custom on-the-fly socials, and unique mobile and object stacking unseen anywhere else! New code is added nearly everyday with no end in sight.
Before retiring from the mud world, the immortal pixie Magnifico Terrifico was one of the original builders, and served for a short time as head implementor, of Archipelago, a multi-user dungeon very loosely based upon the Ars Magica role-playing game published by Atlas Games. He created the city of Wivernhoe, rebuilt most of Lamman, and was key in shaping the look and feel of the mud. A slightly dated, public-release version of Archipelago’s code is available via ftp at the CircleMud website.
According to many of Archipelago’s players and immortals, including the founding implementor Ponder, Magnifico was the heart and soul of Archipelago. He was a creative, mischievous pixie with a slightly warped sense of humour and was known for building such strange creations as the Egg of Annihilation, hookah smoking caterpillars, Doctor Who’s TARDIS, ruby-red ‘recall’ slippers, and the dreaded, poetry reciting lorshroompesti. He was dubiously nicknamed “Mad Mag” by his immortal peers who often questioned his sanity.
The moniker MAGNIFICO (mag nif ´e ko) is a noun meaning “any grandee or great personage” and comes from the Latin magnificus. The name has also appeared in Isaac Asimov’s Foundation Trilogy and the ZBS Foundation’s audio drama series The Adventures of Ruby. In Ruby 3, Magnifico is the name of the City of Malls. Magnifico is also a popular ice cream flavour in the United Kingdom... go figure!
