Explanation:

Welcome to Tempora Heroica! The primary method of advancing your character is through gaining experience in combat, thus earning practice points which you can use to train weapons, learn new skills, or study spells. You begin with equipment suitable for a beginning adventure (type eq), some money, and bread (type i). This will be enough to start you on your way.

Beginning adventurers are advised to start with insects, worms, and small birds until you have a handle on your combat prowess. Use the 'consider' command before attacking anything and don't attack citizens! If you are successful in combat, be sure to 'get corpse' and 'junk corpse' to gain a small cash reward. If things are going badly, it is advised that you 'flee' and perhaps try again whey you have recovered your health.

You will no doubt find combat will go much easier with proper training. Weapon skills are improved by training with warrior guildmasters, you will find one in the La Salle Academy. General combat skills and other non-combat skills are improved by learning from appropriate guildmasters. Spells are advanced by studying under mages, many of whom wander about Wivernhoe. Betty, the tour guide upstairs in the guild hall, can clarify many of these points further.

Eventually you will need to eat and drink. There are many food shops in Wivernhoe and other towns as well. Sardo the baker on Talmage and Gawin the muffin man offer healthy meals for those on a budget. There are many fountains and other water sources in Wivernhoe, the main fountain is due south of the guild hall. In the wilds, you may also drink from such freshwater sources as creeks and rivers.

When you are low on hit points or vigor (stamina), you will need to rest or sleep to recover at a reasonable rate. Be sure to sleep in a safe locations as some critters, notably rodents, will take advantage of your relaxed state. Onslow's Pub in the guild hall is a known location for fast healing and a good place to meet other adventurers.

When it comes time to leave the mud, you may always quit where you are if you have ten items or less. Otherwise, it is advised to rent at an inn (there is one in the guild hall) or you may wish to camp if you have acquired the skill.

If you have questions, feel free to use the 'gossip' command to ask for help but do not beg for others to give you items or money. Please report any 'bug' or 'typo' with those commands and feel free to use the 'idea' command if you have an idea to improve the mud.
