Topic: stopping
Explanation:
Stopping is one of the four functions provided by armor. Stopping is expressed by a number (0-10) in the equipment list. These numbers are the hit points of damage instantly subtracted from the damage you would have taken from being hit in melee combat. The stopping quality of armor is derived from the type of material the armor is primarily constructed from. Soaks are derived from not only the material, but also the type of armor and its construction. For example a heavy steel platemail breastplate will most likely have better soaks than a light steel chainmail shirt. Armor weight is also derived from the material and construction. In fact, the material, type, construction, size, slots covered, and quality all come into play in determining soaks and weight.
