Where've I been? 15 February 2002 I had six finals this past week (two on Monday, two on Tuesday, and two on Thursday) and survived. I already know how I did on half of them and it's looking pretty good. I'll find out about the others in the next two weeks or so. If nothing strange happens with the remaining half (like failing), I'm finished for the semester. I thought I'd write one about acquisition of grammatical gender, but now I don't think I need the hours and I'd rather travel than write a twelve page paper. I have no desire to write a twelve page paper in English, much less German, for a two hour class. I think the research is interesting, but the actual paper writing isn't much fun. It's been incredibly warm here for the last few weeks and we're not sure if there's going to be enough snow to go skiing on our comp. ling. trip next week. If not we'll go swimming and hiking and stuff. I was a little worried I was going to be the lone vegetarian in the corner munching on an apple when there was nothing else to eat, but I found out that two other girls I know on the trip are vegetarian, too. Very cool. Because we all had lots of work in the last month, we haven't travelled too much, but we did go on a day trip to Würzburg. Now that I'm free for two months, I'll be running all over the place. Right now my plans look something like: Black Forest (Black Forest), southern France and maybe Switzerland, northern Italy, eastern Germany (probably Leipzig and Dresden), Paris, and eastern Europe (Krakow or Warsaw, Budapest, Prague). I'll be back in Heidelberg for a few days between each of the trips. Since the fall schedule for UNC has come out, I've started trying to plan for early registration. It's weird that I will have registered for the fall before the second semester here even starts. So, I have two semesters to plan at the same time. I also have this whole looming graduation thing. I have to be sure I finish all my silly perspectives. I only have three left, so I really shouldn't complain. That's one a semester. I'm trying to have time to take more languages at home. Spanish for sure and maybe one other. I really should've taken more Spanish a long time ago, since it's much more useful in the US than German. I think I've mentioned before that I'm in the university choir and that we've had tons of rehearsals recently since our concert is this Sunday at 5. We're singing Saul by Handel. We have a marathon rehearsal tomorrow and it'll be the first time I've heard the main soloists. (If you're in Heidelberg or nearby, you really ought to come! It's in the Aula in the neuen Uni. It is three hours long, but it should be a really good three hours!)
