AAA 2008 Meeting Theme and Demystifying Invited Sessions

The theme for the 2008 meetings is "Inclusion, Collaboration and Engagement." The aim is to build a program around explorations of anthropology's relationships across subfields and disciplines, with our many publics, and with contemporary problems. The closer your submission speaks to these themes the more likely it is to get on the program. If you would like to sponsor an invited session get in touch with Maria Cattell (mgcattell[@]aol.com) and Dave Turkon (dturkon[@]ithaca.edu) early, so they can work with you. And what is an invited session? In a nutshell, this is a session that speaks especially well to the meeting theme, covers a broad range of perspectives, and/or involves cutting edge research. Anyone can propose an invited session, and anyone can attend one. There is nothing mystical about them other than their high standard for excellence. Also, accepted "round-table" panels are automatically given invited status. And last but not least – AfAA can sponsor one invited poster session. The same standards apply as for other invited sessions. This is a great opportunity to get invited status for your session. If you’re interested in putting together an invited poster session, get in touch with us!
