"The Bible As Book: The First Printed Editions"
Dear Society of American Archivists members,
Oak Knoll Press, a scholarly publisher, has recently published -
"The Bible As Book: The First Printed Editions"
- which offers an investigative insight to the effect of early printing on
the text, format and use of the Bible between 1455 and 1520.
Edited by Kimberly Van Kampen and Paul Saenger with an introduction by Sir
Anthony Kenny, this second volume investigates the unique features of
various editions of fifteenth-century printed Bibles as well as the social,
political and technological circumstances under which these publications
were produced.
In addition to the Vulgate, the first editions of the Greek and Hebrew Bible
are addressed in this "tour-de-force of biblical scholarship." Also
discussed are the great polygots, vernacular versions, and the absence of
Bibles from the output of English presses. Co-published by Oak Knoll Press
and The British Library.
