A Home for menus, restaurant and hotel things

In reference to last week's discussion about a new home for some menus, I
would like to invite everyone on the archives list serve with menus, and/
or restaurant and hotel memorabilia that need a new home to consider the
Hospitality Industry Archives at the Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and
Restaurant Management, University of Houston.

We are the official repository for the American Hotel and Motel Association
and Hilton Hotels Corporation. In addition, as the physical site for the
Hospitality Industry Hall of Honor, we add three to four new collections
each year that honor the new inductees. Our web site is at
http://www.hrm.uh.edu/resources/hallofhonor/. Select the pages for the
"Inductees" to identify the honorees and get an idea of the educational
support we provide to students, educators and journalists around the world.
Latest information requests came from China and from a PBS station.

Exhibit items for some inductees, such as last year's Howard Johnson and
this year's Col. Sander's Kentucky Fried Chicken are more challenging than
others to locate. Many of the HoJo exhibit items had to be purchased via
E-Bay. So if anyone finds they have postcards, menus, hotel keys,
matchbooks, magazines or other print materials I would love to hear from you.

Besides the archival items, we have over 7000 cookbooks and 500 culinary
booklets in our collection thus far. The menu collection grows daily, as
does our hotel key collection. We never say "no" to prospective donors.

Many thanks. Cathleen Baird
