A/V workshop in Nevada, May 4

The Conference of Inter-Mountain Archivists (CIMA) offers a one-day workshop covering the preservation of A/V materials at the Nevada State Library and Archives in Carson City, Nevada, on Thursday, May 4. The AMIGOS Preservation Services workshop taught by Tom Clareson is a full-day course covering the diverse group of materials and formats collectively known as audio/visual media - videotapes, audiotapes, motion picture films and film strips, LPs, CDs, and CD-ROMs. Participants will come to understand the various causes of damage and deterioration to audio/visual materials, and ways to minimize damage through proper storage, care, and handling. Identification of different formats, repair and reformatting options, and security of audio/visual media will also be addressed. The AMIGOS Preservation Service is funded in part by a grant from the Division of Preservation and Access of the National Endowment for the Humanities. The course is limited to 25 participants. The registration fee is $50. To register, contact Julie Hunsaker at 801-240-6773.

The A/V workshop precedes the annual CIMA meeting May 5 and 6. Information about the annual meeting is able at http://www.lib.utah.edu/cima/conference2000/
