Old Web pages don't die, they just fade away. 
In fact, web pages are blinking away so fast that the very history of these
pioneer Internet years is threatened with extinction. 
That's why a small group of scientists and students is racing to find ways
to archive web pages, just as paper documents like the original Declaration
of Independence have been preserved.

collection of New York newspapers dating to the assassination of President
Lincoln. Secret U.S. government documents. Thousands of medical research
biopsies encased in wax. 
All these - and so much more - are buried 645 feet beneath the Kansas
prairie in a vast underground salt mine warehouse that teems with treasures
and oddities from across the nation.

SACRAMENTO (AP) -- A bill to make it easier for reporters and the public to
obtain computerized government records was rejected by an Assembly
committee. 
The bill, similar to measures vetoed by two governors, received a 7-3 vote
Monday, one vote short of the majority needed in the 15-member Governmental
Organization Committee.

Bucks County is auditing Dublin's 1999 tax records now that they have been
turned over by the former tax collector in response to a subpoena, Deputy
Controller Kimberly S. Doran said Monday. 
"Normally, when a tax collector leaves office, we do an audit," Doran said.
"We tried to contact her about that, but we had trouble so we issued a
subpoena."

DIARIES and letters revealing the mental torment of Brian Epstein, the
manager who turned the Beatles into the world's most famous pop group, are
to be sold in London tomorrow.
They detail the depression that dogged Epstein from his schooldays until his
reign as Britain's most successful pop impresario. The archive, which has
been in a cupboard for more than 30 years, is expected to fetch about
£45,000 at a pop memorabilia auction at Christie's South Kensington.

at a new museum dedicated to those that protect the state's natural
resources. 
Visitors to the Conservation Warden Museum will see just how the job has
