Microfilming Newspapers

Dear Ms. Stevens (and list):

My name is Inez Wiatrowski and I am an Assistant Project Manager at
Preservation Resources, a non-profit division of OCLC specializing in
preservation reformatting. Preservation Resources specializes in filming
and digitizing library and archive research materials, and we have filmed
many brittle newspaper collections.

Preservation Resources films well over 525,000 frames of fragile newspapers
each year. These include bound and disbound current and retrospective
newspapers from several different countries. We have built special book and
newspaper cradles to accommodate many sizes and conditions. Some of the more
challenging collections which we have filmed have included newspapers that:
--were received folded and broken into quarters and therefore needed to be
pieced back together for filming,
--had suffered severe fire damage and required careful handling of the
charred pages,
--required building a humidification chamber so that they could be unfolded
without breaking the pages.

If you'd like more information about Preservation Resources and the services
we provide, please contact me with your mailing address and I will be glad
to send you a brochure or talk with you about your project. You can also
visit our website at http://www.oclc.org/presres/.

Sincerely,

Inez Wiatrowski
