Re: Death of a Senator - Advice Needed

As one who has handled the disposition of papers for a U. S. Senator, I
believe that the terms of the deed of gift should remain confidential,
particularly for a senator who has only recently died. This message makes
several valid points, but, in so doing, breeches the confidentiality of the
agreement between Senator Muskie and Bates University. This is unfortunate
and will certainly cause others hesitation about entering into agreements
with institutions in the future. Archivists and curators should exercise
great discretion in divulging via the Internet the terms of a deed of gift.
