JOB ANNOUNCEMENT


POSITION:  Local Government Records Coordinator

DESCRIPTION:  Shares responsibility for the daily operations of the Local
Government Records Program within the Rhode Island State Archives and Public
Records Administration.  Ensures adherence to work plan.  Performs
inventories and analysis of local government agencies' records to develop
records retention schedules.  Plans and conducts workshops for local
government officials on records related issues.  Plans and implements
advisory and technical services.  Consults with and advises local government
officials on all aspects of archives and records management, including
records held in electronic format.  Provides advice on inactive and other
records storage and filing systems, imaging, and micrographic applications.
Develops preservation plans for municipal archives.

This position requires periodic in-state travel.

The Local Government Records Program is funded through the Rhode Island
Historical Records Trust which was established by RI Public Law in 1993.

QUALIFICATIONS:  3 - 5 years professional experience in archives/records
management.  Experience in developing records retention schedules.
Demonstrated knowledge of preservation issues, standards, and practices.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with
agency officials.  Excellent writing and speaking skills.  Preferred:
Masters in archives administration/records management, history or library
science with an archives concentration.  Experience in government records
management/archives, including an emphasis on the delivery of services and
training.  Knowledge and experience in electronic records management and
related issues.

SALARY:  Negotiable. (Minimum: $38,500).  Renewable 12 month contract with
potential to become a permanent full time position.
