ANNOUNCEMENT OF FACULTY VACANCY
Position:       University Archivist
Available:      Immediately

Description/Environment
Brigham Young University, a privately owned and operated university of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located in Provo, Utah, invites application for a tenure track faculty position in the L. Tom Perry Special Collections Department of the Harold B. Lee Library.  The University Archivist is responsible for acquiring, processing, making available, and providing reference service for the permanent archives of the university.

Specific Responsibilities
$       Acquire university archives collections by: appraising collections to determine historical relevance; creating and maintaining donor files; working closely with the Records Management Department
$       Process university archives collections by: weeding unwanted materials; ensuring proper physical arrangement of collections; preparing finding aids; preparing catalog records
$       Provide Reference Service for university archives collections by: becoming well read in historical sources relating to the university; developing proficiency in using appropriate paper and electronic finding aids; being available for patron consultation.
$       Contribute to the L. Tom Perry Special Collections department by: attending appropriate meetings; learning of the entire operation to be able to provide reference service in all that is done; participating in the programs and policies of the department
$       Contribute to the profession in a variety of ways including: belonging to professional organizations; publishing papers; delivering addresses.
$       Contribute to the library and university by: participating in department assignments, committees, etc.
Qualifications
$       Masters of Archival Studies, MLIS, or equivalent degree required
$       Academy of Certified Archivists (ACA) certification preferred
$       Strong background in librarianship desired
$       Submission of one or two sample finding aids required.  (Please send with application)
$       Demonstrated knowledge of basic records management principles
$       Competent in USMARC (manuscripts) cataloging
$       Demonstrated ability to supervise students and volunteers
$       Effective interpersonal and presentation skills
$       Ability to contribute to the library profession through participation in professional organizations and involvement in research and publication
$       Flexibility in adapting to changing departmental and organizational priorities and to ever-changing technological environments

Salary and Benefits
This is a tenure track position with faculty status, generous insurance, and retirement benefits.  Salary is negotiable depending upon qualifications.  This is a twelve-month appointment with twenty-two days annual leave and additional professional development time available.
