Re: UV Adsorbing Light Sleeves
Light Impressions in Rochester, NY, Conservation Resources International in
Springfield, VA, and Gaylord Bros. in Syracuse, NY. Yes, they do need to
be replaced as the filter material "absorbs" all the U-V it can hold after a
while. The suppliers probably have replacement recommendations, but another
way to monitor it is to get a U-V meter and test the level before and after
you put the sleeve on. Then periodically to see how it is doing.
Now, here's the kicker. If your U-V lights are the ceiling mounted kind
that have the diffusers covering them, the diffusers may already be
screening most of the U-V. You probably won't get a manufacturer or
supplier (of the sleeves) to confirm that for you, but I have had a
conservator admit it to me. And you can easily test it for yourself with
the U-V meter.

Subject: UV Adsorbing Light Sleeves
Folks,
Anyone have a source for UV plastic sleeves that go on
fluorescent lights? Any thoughts on
longevity/replacement schedule? Thanks in advance,
