Re: merging UA with Manuscript collections



Although Kathryn's comments lean toward the administrative
side of the merger, I will mention that when I came to the
University of West Florida ... the two collections were merged.
That is, you might have a collection "John C. Calhoun Papers"
on the shelf, and next to it "UWF Provost Files" ...

I've visited repositories where staff looked upon me in horror
when I noticed the archives collection was separately distinct
from the manuscripts/personal papers.

In our case, the Director of Libraries (35 years ago) made the
decision to number collections (1966-01, 1966-02, etc.) so
while the contents differ, shelving and retrieving are easier.
