Archives in Cyberspace workshop

Archives in Cyberspace

The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, Pennsylvania State
Historical Records Advisory Board, and the Pennsylvania Federation of
Museums and Historical Organizations are co-sponsoring the workshop Archives
in Cyberspace. The workshop is intended to provide an overview of the
future of archives. It's a chance to sit back and think strategically about
what kind of future archivists want or need. The morning session will focus
on database management, on-line catalogs, finding aides, email, and using
the web. The afternoon will examine issues for archives with electronic
records, lessons learned from research projects, as well as some potential
solutions and strategies for archives.

The workshop will be presented by Lee Stout, University Archivist at Penn
State, former President of SAA, and a member of the Pennsylvania SHRAB. It
will be held September 19 at the Chester County Historical Society in West
Chester, September 20 at the Cumberland County Historical Society in
Carlisle, and September 24 at the Butler County Heritage Center in Butler.

The workshop is a component of the SHRAB Regrant Project, funded by grants
from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission and the
Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. The project is designed to
support SHRAB's ten-year strategic plan to preserve and enhance public
access to the Commonwealth's documentary heritage.

Registration is $20, which includes morning break, handouts and lunch.

The workshop brochure will be available in mid-late August. To receive a
copy, contact the PA Federation of Museums and Historical Organizations at
717/787-3253 or email pamuseums@pamuseums.org.
