Boston Job Announcement- Project Archivist

The WGBH Archives in Boston, MA seeks a project archivist for a one-year Institute of Museum and Library Services grant-funded position to arrange and describe 479 video programs, story masters and field footage tapes and supporting documentation from WGBH The Ten O?Clock News (TOCN) television series. The Ten O?Clock News (TOCN) was daily news covering both local and national news.  The project will preserve and create access to tapes that relate to the life, politics, cultural and economy of Boston?s African American community and civil rights between 1974 and 1991.

 The Project Archivist will process the collection, design and prepare a text web-accessible guide embedded with one minute streaming video clips and enhancement options including Closed Captioning and Descriptive Video.

 The candidate must have an MIS/MLS degree in Information Science with a focus on archive management.  The position requires experience in cataloging non-print materials; demonstrated experience in arrangement and description of video/television materials and documentation along with a working knowledge of video elements and operation of video equipment.  In addition, the candidate must have experience with database design, HTML and Web applications.  Desirable qualifications include knowledge of African-American history and culture in general and of Boston in particular.  A working knowledge of latest version of FileMaker Pro is desirable.      

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

1. Appraise, arrange and describe 476 master programs, edited stories and field tapes and accompanying documentation from the TOCN  series.
 2. Design, prepare and implement a FileMaker Pro 4.0 database and HTML pages for a web accessible guide to the TOCN collection.
 3. Identify and appraise for digitization 476 individual one-minute clips for the TOCN collection web guide; identify 50 programs, stories and field tapes for technical enhancement including Closed Captioning and Descriptive Video Services.
 4. Prepare a MARC collection level record for RLIN.
 5. Coordinate dubbing and digitizing schedule for the TOCN program reformatting, prepare project progress reports.
 6. Prepare a TOCN web page Feedback session link and work with external resources to prepare Web site survey for teachers.
 7. Supervise two intern graduate school assistants.     
 8. Perform other duties as assigned.
