Assistant Archivist for Arrangement and
Description: Auburn University Libraries, Auburn,
AL, seek a knowledgeable and enthusiastic
archivist to assume overall responsibility for the
arrangement and description of archival and
manuscript holdings for a 12 month tenure track
position. This will include supervision of
graduate assistants and other personnel involved
in arrangement and description activities;
creation of finding aids for archival and
manuscript collections; preparation of USMARC
catalog records of archival and manuscript
collections for addition to the OCLC database; the
posting of finding aids to the web in HTML;
participation in reference services in the
Department of Special Collections & Archives.
Position reports to the Head of Special
Collections & Archives. REQUIRED: An
ALA-accredited MLS with graduate level training in
archival administration beyond the introductory
course level, or an M.A. degree in history with
graduate level training in archival administration
beyond the introductory course level (candidates
with an ALA-accredited MLS or an M.A. degree in
history may substitute for the graduate level
training in archival administration any relevant
experience and a demonstrable knowledge of
archival arrangement and description), or an M.A.
degree in archival administration; strong and
effective verbal and written communication skills;
commitment to excellence; and adaptability,
flexibility, and ability to contribute collegially
and productively in a team environment.
PREFERRED: Working knowledge of EAD and computer
applications software; supervisory experience;
understanding and familiarity of USMARC cataloging
format; knowledge of and the ability to create
HTML
documents; and a record of scholarly,
professional, and research activity.

Benefits include 20 days vacation; 12 days sick
leave; participation in state teachers retirement
(mandatory); other additional voluntary retirement

insurance. Salary $39,050 minimum. Application

until a candidate is recommended for appointment.
