El’s journal #001
At the end of a dusty journey I have finally found Mulhurrand. I’d hoped to pick up some amount of
copper or silver at these simple human games, but found unexpectedly many non-human competitors, probably here for the same reason. Saw today two strange beings who called themselves ‘Genasi’ and seemed to think themselves representations of the elements. Of the very elements! How strange.
I think to myself as I watch the games, ‘Dessar would have loved this.’ He liked to compete, to win. Anything that could be turned into a race became a contest… riding, roping, shooting, talking. Everything was fair game. He couldn’t stand to lose, or to share any prize. Not that he ever had to. The only person that could ever stand up against him was me, and that was intentionally infrequent, as I still found it embarassing. He would have made plenty of money today, wouldn’t have been so timid and nervous–would have kept me from being nervous. Some of the other contestants in town made
me uneasy, so I stayed off the beaten path for the night. I was on-edge all day, and it unfortunately showed. I find myself growing lax as I wander aimlessly.
