El’s journal #005
It has been a number of days since there has been time to write—I understand this sort of thing is prone to happen when one is bound to as many masters as we are currently. In several capacities.
There is some small matter of our first Mulhirandi employer, Mr. Mallard. He was slaughtered in his mansion by the same mob of dirty midgets that ransacked the Inn. Our chat with the local constable (and the monster squad) was not unpleasant, but it wasn’t friendly either. Mallard’s death has cast some suspicion on our number, including our recent aquaintences, at least one of whom seems put out to be involved at all.
Our employ with Mallard—and the fact that we survived the attack the following night—led us to our next offer. Perhaps it was one we should have turned away.
One of the local royals, a princeling whose house is abuzz with unfriendly gossip, sought us out to recover an artifact he claimed was the property of his house. We agreed too quickly, as the wage was indeed a princely sum. His warnings against opening the box—or against returning to him if we were unable to procure it unopened—did not sit well with me. Once we had begun to investigate the source of our search, things got a bit complicated, and the suspicious feelings did not abate.
A contact at a local gambling hall, Guy, not only served as a source for information about the prince’s request, but he also sought to hire us to seek a second magickal item: a scroll contained in a bone case. It wasn’t long before we had accepted his offer. We had no choice, really. From his descriptions of what he wished us to do, it was obvious that the scroll he sought was the key to the artifact that the Prince desired. Guy had the artifact in his possession, but the only way we would see it was if we came though with the scroll.
The scroll… that had been taken by a band of Kobolds. So, once again, we were back with the little men. A second trip down into the sewers, a little skirmish, and we had the scroll. We’ve sent word to Guy, and now we wait, torn between two masters, arguing amongst ourselves what should be done.
