Pup, Incoming.

The decision has been made, the deposit sent. The Irish Greyhound pup shown here will be showing up at our place sometime in the next 2 to 4 weeks.

I think K has decided on a name for the new addition — he is the son of Merlin (and mom Bella), so he’s likely to be called Gandalf the Grey. I petitioned for Gandalf D. Grey or Gandalf GreySpork, but so far I think the more traditional usage is winning out. He will have the same last name, incidentally, as the kitten.

He is not yet completely cooked [weaned], so he’ll stay in Charlotte for a few extra days, at Joyful Italian Greyhounds. He’s currently about 7 weeks old, and weighs in around 3 lbs. His sire is only 7 lbs, so he will remain quite small.

We went this morning to a friend’s place, to walk with her to the neighborhood’s lake so that she could scatter the ashes of her faithful four-legged companion to the winds at the pup’s favorite place. It seems sort of fitting that both these things happened in one day, the ravelling and unravelling ends of the same string.

I do look forward to a new baby critter, though my grumbles at its species belie the real affection I’m sure will take over. An IG is a cool breed, even if it’s not a cat. And he’s a beautiful color. And not a gross snort-y pug.
