Friday Five
This week’s friday five:
- What blood group are you?
You know, I’m not even sure. I know my mom told me when I asked her in junior high, but I couldn’t tell you now. - Do you give blood? Why/why not?
No. I’m quite needle-phobic and the one time I screwed up the courage, the kindly lady took one look at my fresh tongue piercing and said ‘no, thanks.’ After that, I never did get up the guts (read: need the money from selling plasma desperately enough) to try it again. - Are you listed as an organ donor? Again, why/why not?
Of course. I won’t be needing those bits once I’m dead, and I see no reason not to get some use out of what’s left. Hell, I’d be willing to give up any parts I wasn’t using right now if it wasn’t for the needles and being-sawed-in-half that’s involved. - Would you donate an organ or other part of your body (eg bone marrow) while still alive?
Hmmm, called my bluff. I don’t know. Some living transplants are incredibly dangerous for the donor or have a high risk of rejection. I’d like to think that even for a stranger, I would at the very least consider it, ponder the odds so to speak, and figure out if it was a wise and rational thing to do. I’d like to think I’d make a smart decision, and if the chances are good it would heal someone, and if it wouldn’t irrepairably harm other people (dependants, spouses, etc.), give up my kidney or whatever. But noone’s ever asked me to give them an internal organ, so I can’t say for sure. The bone marrow thing — no freakin’ way. It would have to be the absolute love of my life, and he’d have to find no other match anywhere, ever, and be about to expire within hours if I didn’t help. And they’d have to give me morphine. Or, wait, no… opium. Or smack. Anything. Everything. I’ve seen that needle before, and it would take a lot of narcotics to get me in the same room with it.
- Would you consider leaving your body to medical science? Or maybe just parts of your body?
Oh, sure. I’d leave my body to whoever wanted it. I mean, deep down, I’m a little ‘ew’ at the idea of being laid out naked and stiff on a table for someone to chop apart, but I won’t care then, now will I? K.’s deal with the body farm sounds kinda cool too, as I bet not a lot of people are willing to do that, let their carcass rot and bloat. But meat’s meat really, so have at it.
