I am not dead. Really.
I know it looks like I wholly abandoned this whole ‘blog’ thing, but I totally didn’t.
I’ve thought of loads of things to post about. Like:
- I got to talk on the phone to Wil Wheaton the other day. He was really nice. He hates Catster, which I think is sacrilege on the altar of Fun Things to Do With the Internets, but hey, to each his own. I might get to see him in person at the Summit in June, so maybe we’ll see if he’s just as wacky in person.
- Vacation! It starts soon. There will be pina coladas and an exceptionally long plane flight in my future. Woo hoo.
- Weddings. The last of the current round of nuptials is on the horizon. I’m happy for my friends and all–delighted, really–but, damn, this is getting expensive. Doesn’t anybody just elope anymore?
- Episode III. Kevin Smith says it rocks. Kevin Smith is a god. I trust Kevin to be a voice that speaks the truth about these sorts of things. If he says it’s good… I almost believe it. I want to believe it. At least enough to blow $10 and go sit in a theater and hope beyond all hope that Lucas finally delivers a film that can sit beside the others and not weep at its inadequacy. A film that shows me some bad, bad, bad motherfucking fallen-Jedi action. Hayden Christiansen be damned.
- Terri Schiavo. Damn, but people are cruel. The law is designed to protect the wishes of the dead, not the feelings of the living. Schiavo’s spouse was totally in the right, countless courts had said so, and then all of a sudden there’s bloody-handed Randall Terry splashing Schiavo’s distorted features on every TV screen in the nation? God, the woman–had she any useful brain function remaining–would have been absolutely horrified. She was so afraid of being fat she puked until she keeled over–I’m pretty certain special ed would definately not be her cup of tea.
- The dog still isn’t potty-trained. But he hasn’t grown anymore, so we’ll consider that one-for-two.
- The cat is… cat-like. Ok, not really, she is Allcats-like, but luckily that works for me.
- I have done a ton of knitting lately (another reason for the lack of blog). I finished the first muppet-y fingerless gloves, then the grey wool pair I made for Mr. Saturday. Then I made another pair, in purple, for L. I have a lighter purple/grey pair that is half-done for myself. Oh, and the yellow, green, and blue pair for Katastrophes. I also got busy with the felted slippers. I made a pair for myself, then a pair for K. I’ve also got half a pair for a co-worker’s daughter, and half a bootie for K’s mom. It’s been all about the gloves and booties. And a pair of socks. My first attempt at socks, really, out of a cheap acrylic because I figured I might screw it up. Indeed, I did — forgetting to write down what size needle I used. The first sock was made correctly. It fit great. I was pleased. Then I got into the second and it didn’t look quite right. But I wouldn’t stop and rip it out, I just kept going. I asked other people, thinking I was the only one that could see it. Maybe I was just crazy. Turns out… I was totally right. Even after washing and drying, one sock fits great and the other is weird and baggy at all the wrong places. Sigh. Oh well. At least I know I can make one really cool sock? I might have to work through another sock with the sock yarn before I attempt one out of the nice Koigu-like purple Merino.
The Koigu-like purple Merino from my stash. Sigh. Yes, stash. I’m officially a really crazy knitting lady in the house at the end of the street with cats. Er, cat. And a stash of random yarn. Two successive sales at Great Yarns have added to my pile of mostly-purple string. And Lopi for felting. And some random shiny stuff that just looked cool. And some sock yarn, now that I have Conquered Making An Actual Sock.
WIPs inclue the remaining glove and bootie, Wheelie from this month’s Knitty, and an oldie-but-goodie, Tasha bag (also a Knitty pattern). Perhaps soon there will be pictures of some of these projects, but not tonight.
- Speaking of this month’s Knitty: the first (and cover!) pattern, Cleaves, was done by a friend of mine. You go, girl!
- Good television: Alias, Lost, er, Cold Case’s Rocky Horror episode with Barry Bostwick, The Shield, Jon Stewart, 24
- Bad television: American Idol, Nanny911/Supernanny, Intervention, Riding the Bus With My Sister (sorry, Rosie, but wow. Bad. I love O’Donnell, but I couldn’t take three minutes of that. Jeez-us.), that Revelations miniseries.
Ho, it’s past midnight. There must now be bed, list of things or no list of things.
