Wow! Thank you, Candice, for letting us know that your Dad's safe and sound. And if you get a chance, let him know we were thinking about him... and still do. :)

Hey
I just read this article after a friend mine told me about it. Goldie (Deatrick Holley), is my father and his girlfriend (Lady Silver), Melanie are both safe as they surrived Katrina. They are both living in Memphis, TN. I was touched to read that my dad was such a warm person to people. If anyone has any questions feel ree to email me candice_holley@yahoo.com
Again, just wanted to let everyone know that Goldie and Lady Silver are safe in Memphis, TN. Thank you for the beautiful article.

Thanks for your kind words, Rachel.

I've had a couple of people contact me to say they'd met Goldie and/or his
wife while in New Orleans. As of yet, I haven't heard from anyone who
could say whether he has been seen post-Katrina. I would sure like to
know that he's ok!

New Orleans is an amazing place, and I hope that it comes back even stronger.

I LOVE your description of New Orleans! There truly is something in the air. I sure hope they get everything back on track.

I just had to reply to your blog becuase I met Goldie there several years ago. He was in Jackson Square standing on his crate, except his wife was working with him and introduced herself as Lady Silver. We got to chat with him for a while too, had a few drinks and got the warnings about which part of town to avoid. I sure hope he and his wife made it through okay.

Thanks for posting this. I know it's cliche' but I really do miss New Orleans.
