The most boring five ever.

  1. Who is your mobile phone provider, and how many minutes are in your plan?

Sun.com, and I have no idea.

  2. What program do you primarily use for instant messaging?

IRC. It’s what we use at work. I also use AIM on occasion.

  3. Who do you send and receive text messages from most?

People I work with, like L in California and, um, T. Who sits in the cube next door. But we talk in IRC. Even though we could, like, whisper if we wanted.

  4. What area code do you live in?

Um, ok. How is this at all interesting?

  5. What year did you first get an e-mail address and do you still use it?

Do BBS addresses count? In any case, it was a long time ago. Like, in the very late 80s or early 90s. And, no, I totally don’t use that address anymore. It doesn’t even exist anymore.

That was a really lame five. Though I suppose beggars can’t be choosers. But I’m somehow not satisfied. So I’ll go and scam the faux Five from somewhere else. This other five:

  1. Name one thing you’ve quit:

This job I had in college, with a boss who smelled like rancid cheese. I had two jobs, and I went to the non-smelly boss and begged him to give me more hours so I wouldn’t have to work for the crazy stinky man. Luckily, he obliged. So I marched directly over to the rank guy’s office and quit. On the spot. When he asked me why, I totally blanked, and blurted out “because I hate this job.” And then ran out of his office.

  2. Name something you’ve won:

    An argument.

  3. Describe a subject in school you do poorly in:

Differential equations. Math made perfect sense and then… it didn’t.

  4. Have you ever purposely not done your best?

Oh, sure. Sometimes it’s just not worth the effort.

  5. Do you lead, follow, or get out of the way?

Depends on who’s in the party. I’m pretty bossy, but I can be content to go along a lot of the time.

Name your favorite:

  1. Soothing sound:

Allcats purring against me when we sleep. It’s both a soothing sound and a soothing vibration.

  2. Comfort food:

K always makes meatloaf and mashed potatoes.

  3. Relaxing music:

Still, after all these years, Kitaro. Or Rachmaninoff. I mean, I like the Cure… but when I want to get zen, it’s not usually what I reach for. Shocking, I know.

  4. Gentle voice:

This guy I knew, a long time ago, who I haven’t thought of in years. I can’t even remember his name—only his handle. He was someone I never actually met face-to-face but we had a fairly long friendship online. This was during the hey-day of ISCA, and I met him there. We talked on the BBS a lot, and occasionally he would call. These were crazy till 4 a.m. sorts of calls. He had a really pretty voice.

  5. Calming smell:

Cedar incense. Not the blended crap or the cheap dried-out sticks. The good stuff.
