Halloween, part 4

And, now, today… The Big Push.

With our progress outside stymied by falling trees and failing-to-show tree removers, today we had a huge workday.

The weather was gorgeous—not too hot, not too cold—with no rain and sun all day. The trees had been chopped down and removed Friday afternoon, and though they didn’t fix the fence, or haul off the fallen bark and refuse, they did remove most of the limbs, all of the trees, and blow off the driveway. Can’t complain, really, when you were dubious they’d do anything at all.

The forecast for rain next weekend put us into a bit of panic mode (by us I of course mean me) and, after a somewhat screechy plea to my gaming list, we ended up with a virtual posse of people running to and fro in a very thrilling Hallows frenzy.

In list format (mostly because I should really go the hell to bed), we covered this ground:

  1. Fence: finished, placed (on rebar which is just fucking SWEET EASY), and primed. To be painted tomorrow.
  2. Graves, front: in the ground
  3. Archway, front: DONE. A little finesse is all it took — it went MUCH smoother this year than last. Also, using a piece of rebar to make a pilot hole in the dirt? Very smart move
  4. Zombie-types: DONE. They get their own little… area
  5. Body frames: assembled and naked, in their tiny cages
  6. Raking at least 10 bags of fucking pinestraw. This was just the front and side yards, but at least the back is less… pine straw-y
  7. Things on sticks: In the ground, except for skulls which are laying on the ground where they’ll go
  8. More sausage balls. Yum
  9. Many brown i-cords. A necessary ingredient
  10. One of the C7 blacklight sets. Those are so damn gorgeous
  11. Front porch/tree lights
  12. Big black people-directing spiderweb
  13. 10 finials cut out (a task which is truly hellish)
  14. More plastic window covers
  15. Painting of heads

A bunch of little stuff that adds up to a LOT of stuff.

Of course, thanks all to the posse. It’s like I closed my eyes and Halloween appeared in my yard. It’s like magic. It’s so beautiful.

And tomorrow… I get to do it all over again.

Oh my. <g>

You know, working on the yard was HELLA fun. If all goes well, I will be back on Saturday to do more. I can also show up early on the day of the party to help out pre-party-proper. Woot!
