photographic update

gandalf and allcats

It’s been a long time since I’ve classified a post ‘illustrated,’ largely because I’ve been slack in the photography department of late. I’ve been taking pictures at work, with a hugely superior camera and a hugely inferior environment for processing. So it’s a grind. Thus, fewer pictures at home. I’m several sets behind on the processing, anyway. Frozen Christmas and Halloween shots languish in the recesses of my computer. I think I shall simply just put up whatever I damn well please from here on out, at least to have something worth looking at, to keep it moving.

Here, of course, you have the kids. I took their picture this afternoon. The head shots are linked to the actual photo of them–together! I do not have to resort to manipulated photos to make it look like our pets get along. They actually sort of do! It’s a miracle!

Well, ok, a miracle of time. As Gandalf ages, he’s a bit less… enthusiastic. And as time goes on, The Kitten seems to realize that, though he smells, chases her tail, and gets in the way, he also provides endless hours of amusement and a reliable source of leftover kibble. So we have (largely) peaceful co-existence. It’s lovely, and occasionally so cute I think my head might explode with adoreableness.

Can you guess what this is? Click through and see. Yep, it’s the finished baby cardigan. This is my second sweater. They were both baby-sized, fortunately. And even in baby-size, I understand now why hoodies are oft-maligned. Just when you think you’re almost done–back, front, two sleeves… then you realize you have this huge folded-over piece as big as the back again to knit. Gah! At least it was a bit more narrow.

Again, this cardi troubled me towards the end. Before assembling, it all seemed allright. But as I sewed the pieces together in the order specified, things seemed off-kilter. Crooked, even. I was advised to continue assembling, as the pull from various bindings would change the shape of the piece. Just before I sewed on the hood, I was practically ready to throw the thing out the window. But somehow, sewing the hood ends down pulled the rest of it together, and–with a little blocking–I think it will be a suitable gift.

If you want to see the full close-up of the buttons or the scarf made from cardi scraps, then there ya go.
