New Orleans follow-up: Goldie’s safe!

A while ago, I posted about the trip I took to New Orleans. It was about this time last year that we were there. I also wrote an article for Red Hat Magazine.

One of the people that I wrote about was Goldie, a street performer that we met one night on Bourbon Street. We hung out on a streetcorner with him for quite some time, and he was just the nicest, coolest guy. Mind you, we were all a bit drunky (New Orleans, hello!), and he just warmed right up and had us laughing till it hurt. A great guy. His girlfriend (we assumed wife at the time, they were so in sync) too was charming and polite.

I had of course wondered what had happened to Goldie and his family, but didn’t know of any way to inquire. Except to put it out on the internet.

And damn, but the internet is really a small place.

This afternoon, a comment popped into my inbox. Candice Holley is the daughter of Deatrick Holley–otherwise known as ‘Goldie.’ He and his girlfriend, Melanie (otherwise known as ‘Lady Silver’) are safe and sound and well in Memphis, TN. If anyone is looking for them, she left her email address in the comment.

So, good news! And a happy ending for that part of the story.

In news of other happy endings, the house has passed inspection, the seller is willing to make all the requested repairs, and there’s barely a month left until closing. Woo-hoo. I really am going to buy myself a house. Holy crap.

You’re gonna be my neighbor, you’re gonna be my neighbor. Yay! Good news about Golidie, too, but since I’ve never met him, the house news is of much more interest to me.
