Two weeks to go.
Termite inspection report is back–no bugs. Woo. That’s pretty much the last thing, save for the survey. Now that only lots of money and lots of work remain… OMG! What am I getting into?
I am so excited. And also so incredibly freaked out. So ready and so… ready to flee the country. I understand this is common. The fact that it is common does not make it any less bizarre.
I also have many, many lists of things to do. Some that might be done in the next few months, others that I’m sure may take years to finally accomplish.
I’m obsessing over the color choices for all the rooms. These are decisions that will be made fairly quickly. I hope. If I can still afford paint after all the checks are signed and fees paid and appliances purchased. I’m trying not to paint absolutely everything purple, though as you might guess, it’ll be in heavy rotation.
- master bedroom and bathroom
Though I keep threatening my mom with the promise of purple shag rug, I’m pretty sure I’ll restrict the psychadelic shag to the master closet (the one off the master bath–there are two closets in my new bedroom. Squee!). The bedroom carpet–grey, perhaps a medium charcoal or a nice neutral speckle patterned shade. Deep pile and extra padding. Walls? Purple. The blue-grey-purple shade I like so much. I hope to carry the wallcolor into the bathroom, though the closets will sport white walls (and the aforementioned wacky purple carpet, if I can find it). Eventually, I’d like to paint the ceiling navy blue, just to see what that’s like. White or light grey trim. Dark grey or black tile/stone in the bath. I’d love to rip out the crappy insert and replace it with an elegant (and larger) tile shower. One day.
- hall bathroom/laundry room
Black linoleum, white walls, chrome fixtures. Clean and elegant. Because my cat needs a litterbox with elegance. Again, the insert blows. But this bathroom is way far down the list.
- guest bedroom
Navy blue/blue-grey/grey-blue walls, white trim, black furniture, grey carpet? I also considered red, but ugh.
- office
Grey carpet, white walls. Black furniture, purple curtains and chair. (Via slipcover… for now…)
- living and dining room, kitchen
Ah, now here comes the hard one. I don’t want to make it purple too, as that’s a lot of purple. And repainting is gonna be a bitch. Besides, I’d rather go neutral so I have options for decor or furniture choices. (A purple sofa one day? No problem…)
I’ve seen some places with wallcolor I really liked: one house had cappucino-brown walls with white trim and black and white and tan furniture and it was so incredibly SMOOTH. I’m not sure in the tall space I have that brown is the right choice, unless it’s toned down to tan, with the darker browns picked up in furnishings. But that’s an awful lot of brown, especially right now when the carpet is brown. Also, wood floor? Brown. Ugh.
I could stick with brown on the floors, and go green on the walls, but that… is the color in my mom’s house and I’m not sure I want to go there.
I could go neutral on the outside walls–grey or white, off-white, cream, very light tan?–and paint the center wall that divides the living and kitchen/dining some other shade. Purple. Green. Darker grey or brown. So many possibilities. My head simply spins.
Area rugs. I need area rugs.
