I live here.

Today the movers come to haul the shit that’s just too big or heavy for me to manage. That includes my sweet, sweet bed with its comfortable mattress that’s more than 7 inches off the ground. Sleeping on the floor is an adventure, but I’m ready for the comforts of home.

There’s still a fair amount of crap at the other place–planters for the porches, some random stuff, some kitchen items. All my measuring cups save for the one really sucky one are over there still. My good pans, too. I just brought spices over yesterday and haven’t even got any salt or pepper in the place–haven’t been doing much cooking, obviously.

What have I been doing instead of cooking? Stripped some wallpaper–everyone’s gotten caught up in the, uh, fun. There’s only one short section of wall to go, and it’s only because I ran out of goop. B and C patched the weird bits, so once the furniture is here, the slow process of painting can begin. I have the primer, but still haven’t picked the actual color.

I bought 8×8x16″ concrete blocks to support the fridge and freezer. 1/2″ 4×8 treated plywood makes the surface. Fortunately this all fit in C’s Jeep, though it made it into a tiny bit of a low-rider. As much of a low-rider as a Jeep that’s already slightly lifted can be, I suppose. This should keep the useful appliances from getting flooded, even if we do get another hurricane.

So, tomorrow the real adventure begins. I won’t just be camping out here anymore. Yippee!
