One house
Today was the last day over at the old place. It was pretty much emptied of my things yesterday, with but a box of cleaning supplies and a couple of shelves and brackets and breakables that were held back remaining. All but the main room were empty, vaccumed or scrubbed clean. We put the last of the things in the cars, and finished breaking down boxes we didn’t need. Once it was all clean, we stood on the porch for a few minutes quietly talking.
I lived with her for the longest I’ve lived with anyone, excepting childhood with my parents. It was sad to shut the sticky door to the porch, by habit using my foot to push the bent door in, pulling back on the handle just enough to make the bolt square with the slot.
Am glad to be rid of that soggy structure, though. The mice and mosquitos. And so far I am content to be here. And now I can concentrate on the here that is this place.
After I take care of some work… and perhaps a wee vacation?
By the by, Secondhand Lions is actually kind of amusing. I’m pretty sure it’s going to be horribly maudlin in the end, since there’s old people in it. And orphans. That never ends well.
