Seasonal flip & Things. Two posts in one.
I swear I’m just going to pick a partial posting and finish it one of these days. Like today. I’m going to post what I was going to post anyway, and then pick at random one of the five draft posts I have saved and finish it.
What I should be doing is either sleeping or finishing the magazine, but I am not weary enough for the first and too weary for the second, so, aye, here I am instead.
So, anyway, first post:
Seasonal flip
Yard went, in one day, from Halloween to Christmas. Not completely, mind you, but in one 8-hour span it went from full graveyard w/ fence and lights, covered in fall leaves… to blown clean yard, with about half the lights taken down and replaced with Christmas ones. And a fair portion of the Halloween props put away. Still plenty to do, but at least I’m not going to be phenomenally out of season.
And to those humbugs who bitch about Christmas lights going up too early, I say bugger off. One person, lots of lights. Takes a while.
It’s supposed to rain tomorrow, so after getting some Dim Sum with some peeps (those who aren’t contaminated by The Affliction), I’ll likely swing by Target for some more storage bins and then come back to continue working on the boxing up and the remaining indoor stuff. Whee! All this in preparation for that most blessed of events… the procuring of the indoor tree. Can’t wait to see what Dorien thinks of THAT.
And the second:
Things
Here’s a list of things. And the first thing that pops into mind when I consider that thing. You should do the same thing. Cause, y’know, it’s fun. Add more things. Don’t answer things that you don’t consider interesting. Make it a thing. Do your own thing. Whatever.
Democratic house and senate
Holy crap. Are you serious? People woke up and went to the polls and said ‘no, thanks’ to the right-wing whackjobs that were lousing up D.C.? Well, cool.
The break-up of Britney and Kevin
Like, oh my gosh, ya’ll. No, seriously, it’s the train wreck the entire world has been watching. Everybody pretends like they’re not at all curious, but c’mon… it’s like those stories your famliy tells at Thanksgiving about the crazy relatives. Maybe that’s just my family, but trust me, it’s funny. And trailer park brides with pimp babies figure prominently in both.
these crazy flavored Hershey’s Kisses
I have to say, I’m not a huge Hershey’s Kiss fan to start with, but some of the new flavors are pretty awesome. Cherry’s ok, as is caramel, and peanut butter leaves something to be desired–I’ll prefer a Reese’s any day of the week. However, the Candy Cane (which is white chocolate, the normally despised cocoa cousin) is fantastic, and from what I’ve heard, the dark chocolate orange and the mint chocolate are pretty darn tasty. YMMV.
Hilary for president
I’d vote for her. Sounds like that might be a vote for the loser… which I find kind of insulting. I’ve never found Hilary anything but dead-on in terms of her politics, and I’m not certain sometimes what exactly Democrats (or most progressives) are reacting against. The majority of the problem seems to be either with her aggression (as a lawyer or as a politician) or her personal disposition. Some take issue with the involvement she had politically as first lady, where I simply don’t see that as an issue at all… in fact, it might make her more qualified, not less. Some dispute her election as a senator–again, willingness to serve. She got elected, fair and square.
And still others–perhaps those that ruffle the most feathers–are the feminists who will not support her because she was soft on her unfaithful husband. And I can’t see that. Because that’s to pretend that you’ve never made a mistake in relationships, or a poor decision out of love. It’s also to assume that we know the true private heart of this other woman… which is just plain rude. Her private life–and, by the same token, her husband’s–are really none of our damned business. Consenting adults are not criminal. And the only person who could say it wasn’t consensual is Monica–and I’m pretty sure the only part of the affair she would wish away is the part where everybody (and her mother! and grandmother!) found out about it. Which, really, NOOB.
Purity balls and father-daughter chastity pledges
Creeee-py.
The Duggars
I hear rumor there’s been another special–Duggars on vacation–but have yet to see it. Comments still pop up every now and again on that thread. Crazy.
The war in Iraq
Oi, what a mess.
