More open source sexism
This is a t-shirt for sale on a BSD related blog. In case you can’t read the text it says “I need anti virus like I need a mix tape from a fat chick.”
I love the open source community, and it gives me a great deal of my livelihood and my social life. I love being part of the open source movement, I work hard to contribute, and it means a lot to me to feel like I belong. That’s why it feels like a kick in the stomach when I encounter sentiments like the one in this t-shirt.

This is just…I mean, am I missing a cultural reference here? This is not only insulting and sexist but totally nonsensical and unfunny.

All too typical, I fear. You aren’t missing a thing, Steve. Plenty of male computer geeks think this kind of thing is acceptable discourse, and any woman who objects is a killjoy.

Unbelievable. Or it would be, if cracks like these weren’t so common.
