I guess I just can’t turn off my inner geek, but one of my favorite things to look for in science fiction is how can we imagine that user interfaces might work in radically different contexts? I thought this short film was a great example of that, and they’ve got some really interesting ideas for holographic user controls. As futuristic as the film is, though, if you’ve ever used sketch-up, many of the guy’s techniques will look familiar.

Have you seen this microsoft promo thing going around? Some similar ‘direct manipulation’ ideas, although not about 3D modelling. The first moments of the video you embedded reminded me of the MS thing.
