David Daube, a noted rabbinic scholar, wrote an article years ago
analyzing a large set of participial commands in Paul's letters,
particularly with regard to domestic matters. The point he makes is that
this participial usage directly parallels rabbinic usage of the participle as
imperative. His case was very convincing that Paul's rabbinic training shows
in his Greek style.
