Note, the context of vv 6-8 as I've rendered it becomes:

6 Who, while being found in the form of God did not consider the state of being
equal to God a prize to be grasped eagerly,
7 but in the likeness of men being born, even in bearing being found as a man,
began to lay aside himself, taking the form of a servant
8 he humbled himself becoming obedient until death, and (emphasis -- even) the
death of a cross.
