Re: GJohn 11:26 πας ο ζων και πιστευων

Alan Regarding your question on the temporal order of this construct, και πας ο ζων και πιστευων, the temporal aspect of this is that they are both concurrent with each other, that is, there is no order or sequence of these two participles. Since there is no intended sequence with this construct, ζω...

Re: Aorist for Perfect - Tense/Aspect

I'm getting way too old to ask questions.

John records for us a word Jesus uttered on the Cross; it was τετλεσται (Perfect Tense). Could John have also selected the Aorist tense in stead of this Perfect, just choosing to portray it in a different Tense/Aspect?

Aorist for Perfect - Tense/Aspect

A tense is selected based on how the author wants to PORTRAY an event, not how it ACTUALLY took place/unfolded. Suppose an author is reflecting on a past event that currently should ACTUALLY be written as a Perfect. Could an author chose to PORTRAY this event that ACTUALLY took place as a Perfect wi...

Re: επι - Matt 14:14, 15:32; 4:6, 14:11

Here is something I put together for an upcoming (maybe it is out already) lexicon of the GNT. Sorry but the formatting did not carry over. EPI ἐπί preposition with a basic meaning on, but with a wide range of meanings according to the context; I. with the genitive often denotes contact; (1) in answ...

Re: σπευδοντας 2 Pt 3:12

προσδοκῶντας καὶ σπεύδοντας τὴν παρουσίαν τῆς τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμέρας

Alan, translate these two words, προσδοκῶντας καὶ σπεύδοντας, as "eagerly waiting for." I read that in a grammar book or commentary quite some time ago. Is this a Hendiadys?

Re: Mark 11:3 ἀποστέλλει

Isn't this simply a Present Tense to draw attention to the fact that the return of the colt is even now in progess. The colt is being returned via the Lord's temporary ride. The consummation of the return is already in progress. The one guaranteeing the return is the Lord himself. That should ease a...

Re: Living Koine for fluency- help

Vivek, You ask: 1) I am considering Randall Buth's work (2 vol books) and John Schwandt's online classes using Athenaze. Which do you think would be a better return on investment of time and money? Which would work better, provided I put all effort into it? Now, I am not in anyway trying to instigat...

Matthew 2:16 2 year old boys or boys/girls

Could we understand the phrase πάντας τοὺς παῖδας to include girls as...
