Re: In Philippians 2:2 what does the second κατα imply?
It's Eph 2:2... The two prepositional phrases are coordinate, and not in apposition. By that I think you mean this: "The Philippians' behavior is according to τὸν αἰῶνα which coordinates with τὸν ἄρχοντα τῆς ἐξουσίας τοῦ ἀέρος τοῦ πνεύματος." So are τὸν αἰῶνα and τὸν ἄρχοντα different ent...

Re: απτω
I've often seen απτω given as meaning "to fasten to; hence , to fire, kindle...". The two basic concepts that this word can mean seem to be very different. Is there is a way to understand this culturally? Did the Greeks "fasten" material to something in order to light it, which ...

Rom. 2:15 οἵτινες ἐνδείκνυνται τὸ ἔργον τοῦ νόμου γραπτὸν ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις αὐτῶν, συμμαρτυρούσης αὐτῶν τῆς συνειδήσεως καὶ μεταξὺ ἀλλήλων τῶν λογισμῶν κατηγορούντων ἢ καὶ ἀπολογουμένων, What sense do you make of the underlined portion of this verse? I suspect it means their conflicting thoughts eit...

2Th. 3:11 Ἀκούομεν γάρ τινας περιπατοῦντας ἐν ὑμῖν ἀτάκτως μηδὲν ἐργαζομένους ἀλλὰ περιεργαζομένους· This verse seems to me to be a close parallel, if it helps.

Re: Requirements for Baptism
I believe I have seen something similar to that in Ablution, Initiation, and Baptism: Late Antiquity, Early Judaism, and Early Christianity. I hope this helps.

First, let me say that I have no idea, but I don't think it is either of these two options. LSJ pairs the word with ἐπίσταμαι.

Re: Linking the Phrase ἐν τῇ Τιβεριάδι With the Words in the Context
The question that I am asking is why others believe that the statement underlined above is a likely option. The text says that Josephus sent the messenger while he was making his way to Tiberias, and we know from the next verse that the people met him at his arrival. This means that Josephus couldn...

Re: Linking the Phrase ἐν τῇ Τιβεριάδι With the Words in the Context
I can appreciate the sentiment. I suspect that there may be a common element linking these two thoughts (and perhaps others) that is currently obscured from us. At the very least, it seems to me that the word doesn't have to refer to a literal presence or imply any kind of motion toward an intended...
