Simpson on the Papyri
In a Tyndale New Testament Lecture given in 1946 ( Words Worth Weighing... ), E.K. Simpson said: "In recent years we have been flooded with testifications to the vernacularity of the New Testament; so much indeed that methinks the balance needs to be somewhat redressed. Unquestionably we owe a ...

Re: Hello from South Africa
My name is Justin and I'm looking to learn Greek. Hi Justin, I am also from South Africa. My wife and I are learning N.T. Greek at a local Baptist church. I find that relevant books and software are expensive in this country, so I try and get as many resources as possible from the Web. Are you lear...

Re: Interlining is used as a way to learn languages.
Whether a student like me who is doing introductory Greek should (or should NOT) resort to interlinears is another question. If I need to be rebuked to some extent for my interlinear pursuits, please go ahead and do so! Let me answer your last question and give you a different perspective on interl...

Re: BART and Interlinears
There is not too much concerning which I am dogmatic. A few theological issues and the fact that interlinears are the spawn of the devil. They are the linguistic equivalent of brain eating zombies. Thank you for this advice about interlinears, Barry. (George Somsel said more or less the same thing....

Re: BART and Interlinears
I currently support the BART project for Wycliffe Bible Translators/SIL... It's my personal aim to produce a version that leverages freely available texts and that could be freely distributed, but I am unable to make any promises at this time. As (and if) I make progress in this area you can be sur...

BART and Interlinears
While browsing on the Web I was led to one of Stephen Levinsohn's pages. One of the items on the top menu was BART. Clicking this term allowed me to download a Greek-English interlinear of the New Testament, with enhancements and markings done by the BART tool. Even without understanding the exact p...

Replying to a post
This is a question about replying to someone's post (forgive me if I am dim). I introduced myself in the Introductions section. Two people replied (Hofstetter and Jones) and welcomed me, and I want to reply to each of them. All I can see is POSTREPLY at the very top of the three posts, and POSTREPLY...

Practice Area
Is there a dummy/practice area somewhere in the Forum where nervous newcomers like myself can experiment with putting hyperlinks and BBCode into a post?
Thank you,
Patrick

Patrick Maxwell
Hi everyone, my name is Patrick Maxwell (I am an old retired fellow in South Africa). My wife and I have been learning koine Greek in a small class given by someone at the local Baptist church. Wenham's "Elements" is the book that is referred to the most. The next section of our syllabus i...
