Re: Meaning of ἐπιβαλὼν in Mk. 14:72
Thanks for your responses; they're all helpful. I've been reflecting further on the inceptive sense as given in papyrus cited by Moulton & Milligan, namely the phrase, ἐπιβαλὼν συνέχωσεν, and it seems to me that the sense would have been that of "throwing oneself into" a project--you k...

Meaning of ἐπιβαλὼν in Mk. 14:72
I was wondering about the meaning of the aorist participle ἐπιβαλὼν in Mark 14:72. In context, Peter has just heard a rooster crow a second time. The relevant text is: καὶ ἀνεμνήσθη ὁ Πέτρος τὸ ῥῆμα ὡς εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς ὅτι Πρὶν ἀλέκτορα φωνῆσαι δὶς τρίς με ἀπαρνήσῃ· καὶ ἐπιβαλὼν ἔκλαιεν. My quest...

Re: Word Order in John 13:6
Thanks for your replies; I've benefitted from all of them! Do you think there is a pointed, purposeful contrast between σύ and μου in this passage, where both precede the verb? Or do you think the grammatical law from Classical Gk. by which the enclitic μου tends to be pulled forward precludes such ...

Word Order in John 13:6
ἔρχεται οὖν πρὸς Σίμων Πέτρον. λέγει αὐτῷ, Κύριε, σύ μου νίπτεις τοὺς πόδας; I was wondering about the placement of μου prior to νίπτεις. Does the Greek text grammatically move the possessive pronoun forward as a matter of emphasis? Does Peter's question, and its phrasing in Greek grammar, imply a c...

Re: Greek Style
Thanks for your comments and suggestions of different resources. A cursory search of Amazon turned up only one book by Eugene A. Nida touching, in part, on the subject of Greek Style in the NT, but perhaps there are other works as well. At advanced levels, it seems like rigorously defining what is m...

Greek Style
I've been wondering for awhile now whether there have been recent discussions of Greek style in the GNT. I think Nigel Turner wrote on style in the GNT some time ago. Has the idea of "style" been replaced by other approaches these days? Any thoughts on this topic would be appreciated.

Re: Word Order: [1Tim4:5]
Steve,
The reference seems to be 1 Timothy 4:6. Anyway, I'm thinking that the word KALOS is placed forward and prior to the verb for emphasis. Just my guess.

Re: New Testament Audio Texts
15 Nov 2011 Mark: Thanks for a fascinating yet brief description. I appreciate the response. I'm probably not yet ready to take the spoken language plunge, but I'd guess that for those who can do so that it really opens up horizons of understanding and thinking--certain constructions would seem more...

Re: Carl W. Conrad
Carl: I was wondering what the topic of your doctoral dissertation might've been--on a topic in Greek or in Latin? Did you continue to work in that field, or branch out from there? Did you work in the area of Greek grammar? I'm relatively new to B-Greek, but I've enjoyed your posts and comments. It'...

Re: New Testament Audio Texts
Hi, folks,
I was just wondering what "Restored Koine" refers to--I'd assume that it refers to a certain way of pronouncing Koine Greek, maybe different ways of pronouncing the vowels and so forth.
Thanks,
Jeremy
