Re: Romans 15.8-9a

8 λέγω γὰρ Χριστὸν διάκονον γεγενῆσθαι περιτομῆς ὑπὲρ ἀληθείας θεοῦ, εἰς τὸ βεβαιῶσαι τὰς ἐπαγγελίας τῶν πατέρων, [9] τὰ δὲ ἔθνη ὑπὲρ ἐλέους δοξάσαι τὸν θεόν.. Main questions: 1) Has Christ become a minister to the circumcision (the Jews), or a minister of circumcision? 2) Is δοξάσαι coordinate wit...

Re: Gal. 3:3b ... ἐναρξάμενοι Πνεύματι νῦν σαρκὶ ἐπιτελεῖσθε

I've been pondering Gal 3:3 in connection with all the other flesh phrases of Galatians for two years since the above conversation. I'm still exploring this possibility: νῦν σαρκὶ in 3:3 (ἐναρξάμενοι Πνεύματι νῦν σαρκὶ ἐπιτελεῖσθε) has the same positive connotation as νῦν... σαρκὶ in 2:20 (ὃ δὲ νῦν...

Re: the import of κεκοινώνηκεν in Hebrews 2:14

To me, the perfect implies a change of state, and the nature of that change of state depends on the lexical semantics of the verb. I hadn't looked this up when I wrote that, but here's the semantics BDAG gives to this verb: τινός in someth. (X., Rep. Lac. 1, 9, Mem. 2, 6, 23; Pla., Leg. 12 p. 947a;...

Re: πάλιν in Galatians 2:1

I haven’t focused on the chronological aspects of Gal 1-2, except I know that it is a puzzle, with different starting points and different ways of counting (inclusive or exclusive) all mooted in the literature with much erudition. It is a hard problem. Maybe I’ll take a crack at it some time. Re: &...

Re: πάλιν in Galatians 2:1

① Restitutive adverb: πάλιν REVERSE-CHANGE, for a change back to a prior ¹location, ²possessor, or ³state. [< Same entailments as ⓪, as] in travel itineraries: 2 Cor 1:16 (καὶ δι’ ὑμῶν διελθεῖν εἰς Μακεδονίαν) καὶ πάλιν ἀπο Μακεδονίας ἐλθεῖν πρὸς ὑμᾶς and to come back from Macedonia to you. Gal 1:1...

πάλιν in Galatians 2:1

Ἔπειτα διὰ δεκατεσσάρων ἐτῶν πάλιν ἀνέβην εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα Three interconnected questions: 1: Does πάλιν mean back (of place) or again (of time)? 2: Is fourteen years measured from the initial revelation or from the previous visit to Jerusalem? 3: Would "back" fit if the 14 years is measured...
