Re: Greek Grammars on the Articulation of Prepositional Objects

How much the descriptive statements can be separated from "why"? More accurately, how reliable can a description be if it's not understood why it is so? This is related to my previous comment - can it be even observationally accurate if we actually don't know what we observe, and can we know what w...

Re: Diogenes 4.4 - supported reading and searching of Greek and Latin Texts

Where do I need to install them on my Mac? I already have the Diogenes update itself, but haven't installed it yet. Just install them wherever you want and will be able to find them again. When you set up Diogenes it will have you provide the location of the files. I don't know if this is also true...

Re: Albuquerque on Mark 2:10

It sounds like this is an attempt to mash up linguistic analysis with the new(-ish) fad in Gospels studies, so-called performance criticism. I'm not sure what this interpretation accomplishes other than taking a text that seems pretty straightforward in the narrative and make it really abstract and ...

Re: David Yoon on the Perfect Tense - 1 Cor 7:14

One final thought on Kuhnian "paradigm shifts" and Porter's review (for the record, I think he has many fair points in the brief article; any short review of a multi-authored work of the scope of Greek Verb Revisited will necessarily have to be light on specific disagreements and arguments). Porter'...

Re: David Yoon on the Perfect Tense - 1 Cor 7:14

Have you read Porter's review in FNT / have any thoughts? https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=E6W ... ed&f=false A few big-picture thoughts: 1. Of course, many of his points are obviously true. Greek Verb Revisited is more like a coalition of voices approaching the issue from a set of loosely share...

Re: ἐν (τῷ) κόσμῳ

I haven't looked at the contexts in which each of these phrases occur yet, but it seems obvious that the Johannine uses in this list all contain the article. Outside of the Johannine writings, we're left with this: Phil 2:15 φαίνεσθε ὡς φωστῆρες ἐν κόσμῳ Col 2:20b τί ὡς ζῶντες ἐν κόσμῳ δογματίζεσθε...

Re: Form of the Word Πολύς in Matthew 24:12

Πολλῶν is not a comparative form. The comparative of πολύς is the various permutations of πλείων, πλέων (used 46x in the NT, including 6x in Matt., according to NA28 Accordance module). However, simply because it is not a comparative form does not mean it can't be used to express a comparative (or e...

Beware of Academia also - it appears that anyone can post anything.
I concur that the results on Academia can be very uneven. There is, though, a great deal of high quality work available there. The internal search engine, at least what is available for free, is certainly not awe-inspiring though.
