Re: Titus 2:3 "καλοδιδασκάλους"

I didn't kow this website, it looks great, thanks for sharing.
EDIT: neither of them mention in any way a possibility that the word wouldn't refer to the older women.
Interesting Eeli, thanks.

Re: Titus 2:3 "καλοδιδασκάλους"

If one reads 1 Tim 2:12 in full, one gets that Paul does not permit women to teach men. I haven't ear any ambiguity in greek (neither in the some good english translations, cf. the KJV) : Paul does not permit women to teach. If you don't agree with the reading of 1 Tim 2:12, I invite you to try to ...

Re: Titus 2:3 "καλοδιδασκάλους"

This is a compound adjective, or sometimes called a two-termination adjective. Compound adjectives only have the masculine (or what is normally masculine) and neuter endings. The context tells you whether the adjective is masculine or feminine. Thanks for the precision James, it helps. If we isolat...

Titus 2:3 "καλοδιδασκάλους"

Hi, I was thinking about the forebidness for a woman to teach (cf. 1 Tim 2:12) and then I saw Titus 2:3. Titus 2:3: πρεσβύτιδας ὡσαύτως ἐν καταστήματι ἱεροπρεπεῖς, μὴ διαβόλους, μὴ οἴνῳ πολλῷ δεδουλωμένας, καλοδιδασκάλους, In its context (Titus 2:2-4, R.P): πρεσβύτας νηφαλέους εἶναι, σεμνούς, σώφρον...

"γυναῖκας" in 1 Cor 7:29

Hello, I encountered this plural form "γυναῖκας" in 1 Cor 7:29. "Τοῦτο δέ φημι, ἀδελφοί, ὁ καιρὸς συνεσταλμένος· τὸ λοιπόν ἐστιν ἵνα καὶ οἱ ἔχοντες γυναῖκας ὡς μὴ ἔχοντες ὦσιν,", 1 Cor 7:29. I had a discusion with someone in a language that is different than English (and this lan...

Re: Jerusalem in plural form in John 10:22 ??

Ok :) Then, Names of cities in ancient Greek are often in the Plural, e.g,, Ἀθῆναι, Athens. is there any reason for this ? (it’s maybe a hard or crazy question sorry) And about : it has both singular feminine forms and neuter plural forms in the NT I have again those following questions: Is there an...

Re: Jerusalem in plural form in John 10:22 ??

Oh ok thanks, but when you say :
it's borrowed from a Semitic language
you mean the whole ancien Greek (attic, koine, etc...) language is borrowed from a Semitic language, or only the N.T ancien Greek ?
Would you have some ressources explaining that more deeply ?

Jerusalem in plural form in John 10:22 ??

Hello,

First, here is John 10:22 :
Ἐγένετο τότε τὰ ἐνκαίνια ἐν τοῖς Ἰεροσολύμοις· χειμὼν ἦν,
(NA27)

What surprise me is the fact that Jerusalem is in the plural :
ἐν τοῖς Ἰεροσολύμοις
I don’t understand that plural at all !

Could someone help me with that please ?

Gustav.
