Re: Matthew 5:28
Thanks, David. I did read that part from LXX before but was just wondering about the grammar in 5:28.

Re: Matthew 5:28
How about from the word meaning of ἐπιθυμέω itself? BDAG list as the first meaning, "to have a strong desire to do or secure someth., desire, long for w. gen. of the thing desired." Also, Blomberg says in the New American Commentary (on Matthew) that "the grammar of v. 28a leads to tw...

Matthew 5:28
"πᾶς ὁ βλέπων γυναῖκα πρὸς τὸ ἐπιθυμῆσαι αὐτὴν.... "(Mat 5:28 BGT) What can we make out of the infinitive τὸ ἐπιθυμῆσαι (in contrast to just using the noun τὸ ἐπιθυμία)? Does the infinitive tell something about the action/doing rather than just a lust or desire (i.e. an inner feeling)? Is ...

Re: Ephesians 1:4
I understand Barry. My question pertained to the grammar of the Greek specifically the phrase εἶναι ἡμᾶς, the infinitive followed by 1st person plural in the accusative (or any pronoun in the accusative, for that matter). Well, it is good that you have narrowed down the question now. :) The origina...

Re: Romans 6:8 and 2 Timothy 2:11
In 2 Tim, συναποθνῄσκω is one word, a result of combining συν and αποθνῄσκω, but it has become a single word by itself. It is something like when we say co-died. "If we co-died, we will also co-live." (Note the "with Him" is many English translations is implied (clearly) but is n...

Re: Gal 2:19 Χριστῷ συνεσταύρωμαι
I realized I typed some confusing statement(s) earlier. I didn't mean to say the crucifixion of Christ and Paul's co-crucifixion with Him are both passive. I was actually just saying that the συσταυρωθέντες in Mat 27:44 and the συνεσταυρωμένοι in Mar 15:32 must be the same. The confusing part is I u...

Re: Gal 2:19 Χριστῷ συνεσταύρωμαι
Since they are talking about the same thing/event, we know that συνεσταύρωμαι is used in passive sense. Not to venture too much into theology here, but you're assuming way more than what's in evidence in this assertion. Could you elaborate a little? I do see the tense difference, and I am not sayin...

Re: Gal 2:19 Χριστῷ συνεσταύρωμαι
Eeli, I appreciate your input very much, and I certainly did not mean that I didn't think your theory was Greek. It was just that I was (and still am) very new here, so I am extra cautious not to violate any rule here. I was probably a little over cautious though because exegesis in Greek is indeed ...

Logged out every time
Hi, why is it that I get logged out every time I close my browser? I have checked the checkbox for keeping me logged in. This is not happening on other forums that I visit/join, so I know it is not that my browser doesn't allow cookies. Is there anything else I need to set?
Thanks.
Thanks.
