Re: Dickey, Composition: Ch 1, Analysis

The whole text from this chapter:

Re: Question about Dickey's Composition - Analysis

I don't see where she recommends using that form of analysis before chapter 6. After that the chapters often (always?) say "analyze according to the model given in chapter VI". So I say we just wait till then. Up to that point, I would rather just focus on the instructions in the chapter, and focus...

Re: Question about Dickey's Composition - Analysis

Do you think that you will be doing analysis in this way or simply translating or what?

[Dickey] Question about “Analysis”

So, I'm trying to work through how Dickey gives directions about analysis in Appendix C. I've never done this kind of analysis before. What I did for #1 and #2 is attached here. Can you tell me what you think? Did I do it correctly? Is there a "correct" way to do it? {edit: I changed the rankings an...

Re: Dickey, Composition: Ch 1, Sentences

As recommended, I've gone back to the Preface to read Dickey's comments on the use of the book, and I found something that I don't think I can agree with: A thorough review of declensions, conjugations, vocabulary, principal parts of verbs, etc. is built into the book: each chapter focuses not only ...

Re: Dickey, Composition: Ch 1, Sentences

OK, chapter 1 turned out to be easier than I had expected. I will take my time with the analysis of the Greek sentences from the Anabasis and try to use the system that Dickey advocated in the appendix. How are you guys doing with things? 1. ὁ ἵππος τὸν δεσπότην φέρει. 2. ὁ μὲν βιβλίον φέρει, ὁ δὲ ο...

Re: Dickey, Composition: Ch 1, Sentences

Also, Dickey recommends a specific manner of study in the preface. Read the notes, the grammar references, memorize the vocab and then do the exercises, rather than looking everything up during the attempt to do the exercises. I think that's a good approach and will try to follow it. Yeah, now that...
