Re: κατα in Gal. 1:13

Galatians 1:13 Ἠκούσατε γὰρ τὴν ἐμὴν ἀναστροφήν ποτε ἐν τῷ Ἰουδαϊσμῷ, ὅτι καθ᾽ ὑπερβολὴν ἐδίωκον τὴν ἐκκλησίαν τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ ἐπόρθουν αὐτήν, The meaning is pretty clear, but I'm interested to know how to explain how κατα is functioning in this construction. I looked up BAGD, and Gal 1:13 isn't liste...

Re: 1 Cor 15.29

That they might therefore place some sort of receptacle to contain water for baptism on the floor above such a burial would not be something requiring much of a fixed structure beyond the original burial and could therefore reflect the practice even of a house church. George, I'm not sure what kind...

Re: Learning Greek on one's own

I found this Hebrew grammar: http://individual.utoronto.ca/holmstedt/Textbook.html , but I can't tell whether it is useful. Do you think it is comprehensive? And I was wondering, is it possible to have a Hebrew sub-forum on B-Greek? ;) I haven't look through to the end of that grammar, but it looks...

Re: Jake Horner

Hiya Hiya, I'm just finished my second year (of four) at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. I have to confess I've fallen in love with Greek. I've spent two years working on Greek, and am going to spend the next two on Hebrew (while maintaining my Greek). Welcome aboard. Yet another soon-to-be Hebrew...

Re: Creating a "Reader's" Edition

Question for (probably) Louis... I'm adapting some online software to autogenerate vocab lists from texts, but I'm lacking good, short definitions. I came across this on letsreadgreek... http://www.letsreadgreek.org/resources/boyce/vocabulary/Vocab02.txt Where would I find the largest source of han...

Re: Having problems viewing fonts? (Call for Guinea Pigs!)

Change that. The problem I'm having is that "Microsoft Sans Serif" font is an old VGA font on my system, so it is not anti-aliased or anything that makes it appear nice. Did someone request or need this font to be so high on the list before Tahoma or Arial? Stephen My problem is that my system was ...

BBG has gone digital

Bill Mounce's Basics of Biblical Greek is now available digitally on OliveTree . He has said that it should be released soon with Accordance as well. The textbook will continue to be made available in print form while now being released in the new format also, of course. As the result of an inquiry ...

Re: Having problems viewing fonts? (Call for Guinea Pigs!)

My Android Sprint phone (Browser 2.2.2) still shows square boxes. Is there any fix for this? Do I need to install a font on it? I have no idea what to do with it. There is indeed a fix. Download and install the free app called "Fontomizer." Once installed, open it from your app menu and look in the...

Re: Learning Greek on one's own

I hope to do Hebrew after this. Hi, Peter. Let me know when you get to Hebrew. I'll try to give you some pointers, and I'll answer any Hebrew questions that might come your way. Have you thought about which text you'd like to work through for Hebrew? In college, we used Seow's grammar. I've also go...

Re: Learning Greek on one's own

Susan, I started out a self-studier. I went through 20 chapters of Mounce on my own at the age of 17. I literally memorized the book, all of the paradigms of nouns and adjectives, all of the verb forms, the exact chapter that the vocab was contained in, the contents of each "Exegetical Insight" sect...
